Come out to our next “First Wednesday” meet up!
6:00 PM Start
When: Wednesday, August 1st
Come hear Kelce Wilson present his talk:
“Maximum IP Protection for Minimum Legal Spend (for Start-Ups)”
Several tactics will be provided to assist cash-strapped start-ups maximize the per-dollar effectiveness of their intellectual property (IP, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets). Engineers and designers may be able to do some of the work involved in obtaining IP protection themselves, to reduce the amount of work that is billed by attorneys. Attorney assistance may be recommended for many tasks involved with IP protection, but by being smart about what work must be done by an attorney and what the engineers and designers can do themselves, a more cost-effective IP protection plan may be implemented in some scenarios. Resources provided: 1. Reviewing Your Patent Application Prior to Filing: A guide to getting more from your patent budget. 2. INVENTION DISCLOSURE FORM, 3. Case Study
Kelce Wilson was in the U.S. Air Force, first on active duty and then the Reserves, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He won Reservist of the Year for the Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center for solving multiple challenging mathematical problems that had been delaying development of stealth and radar jamming systems. He has a B.S., M.S. and PhD in electrical engineering, an M.B.A., a J.D. (law degree), and US Patent and Trademark Office practitioner registration. Additionally, he is a certified privacy professional, with CIPP-US, CIPP-E, and CIPM. During his military and engineering career he worked in satellite control, cryptography, radar jammers, low observable (stealth) aircraft, automatic target recognition, synthetic aperture radar (used for long-range surveillance), and cybersecurity testing. Now, as an attorney, he assists clients with patent prosecution, litigation, and licensing, and also privacy & security matters.
