Islamic Art Revival Series is excited to announce Connecting Pattern Educator Workshops 2018, TEKS and Common Core aligned 2-day workshops for educators of all levels and backgrounds (K-12, Community College, and University). The workshops will be led by Richard Henry and Adam Williamson, lecturers at the internationally acclaimed Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, and founders of the Art of Islamic Pattern.
Connecting Pattern offers a practical introduction to the principles of Islamic Pattern, and will explore the connections between geometry and nature, art, architecture, mathematics, and science.
The 2-day intensive course will be of particular interest to educators of diverse backgrounds, whether in a school or museum setting, curriculum designers and education administrators more broadly.
The workshops are introduced with a basis of theory, placing the patterns within their cultural and historical context. Through a range of practical and hands-on drawing and design exercises, participants will develop a solid grounding in the language of symmetry, both in its crystalline geometric aspect and in the more cursive form of the Arabesque. To conclude the workshop, educators will be invited to explore how this rich material can be adapted to support learning across a range of disciplines from mathematics, science, history, geography, art and design.
There are two dates for the 2-day intensive workshops:
- The first session runs August 23-24, 9AM-5PM both days.
- The second session runs August 25-26, 9AM-5PM both days.
Workshop fee is $200. Fee covers materials used in workshop, for participants to keep, and food for both days.
Scholarships are available, send your CV/resume to Connect@IslamicArtRevival.com, and we will set a brief phone interview. We look forward to hearing from you!
